  1. I could not get enough of the Hunger Games. I read these books for 6 days non stop. In the beginning, I felt conflicted over Peeta and Gale. I loved both of them and couldn't choose who I wanted Katniss to be with, so I was glad I hadn't written the books, haha! But as I was almost done with Mockingjay, I had decided on Peeta and my reason for him was the same reason Katniss had given. I was so scared for Peeta when the Capitol had taken him and could not stop reading until I knew he was okay and safe..even though he was hijacked.

    1. I got the first two installments for Christmas two years ago. I ended up reading them within days (before New Years). The way Suzanne Collins wrote these books was very real and relatable. It reminded me of the Uglies Trilogy by Scott Westerfield in some aspects. I decided to go team Peeta somewhere in Catching Fire. I thought his feelings were absolutely genuine were Gale wasn't really putting forth effort to "fight" for Katniss in the second and third books. If you guys get a chance try and borrow the audiobook for Mockingjay from Amanda. At the end there is an interview with Suzanne Collins and it was very interesting to hear what she had to say! =)

  2. Yeah Amanda is going to give me the audio books, that's awesome that there is an interview with her at the end. I never thought about how Gale didn't fight for her; that's a good point. I can't wait to watch the movie, I hope it's a close rendition to the books!

    1. The movie preview looks JUST how I imagined their world, I'm very excited to see how it turns out (hoping that it won't be another Twilight disaster. Maybe it could be a Booklub field trip ^.^)
I'm so glad you mentioned this series at work Chezla, I didn't end up getting it until, like... 10 months later, but I'm glad I did! I power read all 3 books in a week and was so sad when it ended.
I was really torn between Gale and Peeta throughout the whole series... Katniss and Gale shared a long friendship but who can resist a sweet guy like Peeta who's always had a secret thing for ya?
I also loved how she explained the different districts, and how the Capitol reminds me so much of our modern culture. How desensitized we are to violence. How vain we are about appearance. However I did love Katniss' reactions to all the new luxurious things she saw and how she didn't let it all go to her head.
P.S: Found a cool site: http://thecapitol.pn/ - they put me in District 1.

  3. I initially heard of the Hunger Games through several different guests of mine while at work; and I won't lie, I totally wrote it off as another "Twilight" series. I finally decided to pick up a copy while in desperation for something to read.
I was surprised how quickly the story took off; everything my friends had described about the books was revealed in the first few pages. It was strange, but I was super enthralled from the get-go.
I loved Katniss in the first book: she was a very self-reliant and skilled protagonist. AND she's a girl. Fricken sweet. As I read on about her relationships with others (Gale, Peeta, Prim), I became uber frustrated with her. She almost seemed like she was intentionally being inarticulate. Girl can't communicate worth shit.
I guess that's why I adored Peeta so much. He really knew how to manipulate the audience (and ultimately the Games) very well. Peeta balanced Katniss out.
Mockingjay made this evident throughout its pages.
I suppose it's my favorite book in the trilogy, but for one reason only. The way Mockingjay was written made the Hunger Games much more realistic. The war-zones, violent usurping, torture and post-traumatic stress sound eerily authentic. I loved Susan Collins for including such an intimate and vulnerable view, rather than creating invincible and insincere characters.
Anyway, one week later I was done with all three books.
It ended up being the best life-decision ever. I'm actually angry at myself for avoiding such an outstanding story.

BTW, thought you guys would enjoy this:

  4. Ok guys, I finished Mockingjay last Thursday, and I loved them! I had first hear people talking about the first book over facebook(of course)when it first came out, but I didnt pay mut attention to them. When Chezla got them I remember asking her about them, because we have similar taste in books, they sounded interesting, but I kept thinking abut all the movies out that have people hunting people, so I decided to put them on the bottom of my "To Read List". Then I saw the movie trailer, and it looked good, and Kylie and Veronica read them so fast and loved them I finally decided to give them a shot and oh man! I hated it when I had to put them down, lol. I think the first one is my favorite, the way Collins described all the action, it was like I was really there with Katniss and Peeta. Rue has to be one of my favorites, I sobbed when she died. The way all the books were written it was like i was readng something that was true, that it happened, I was so attacked to Prim and Peeta. I knew right away that his feelings wernt a game(even with out you guys telling me lol)I was so annoyed that it took Katniss so long to see he was genuin, and for her to relize she felt for him too. Catching Fire was my second favorite, I loved seeing the other districts, and the different "culturs" so to speak. And seeing the impact the games had had on the different victors, love Finnik, and Maggs, that was sad. I really thought the clock theme to the arena was morbidly awesome, I would have never in a million years have been able to come up with something like that, very deadly and very cool. Did we ever find out what all 12 sections did? Mockingjay is my least favorite(sorry Veronica)I was so worried for Peeta, and I never liked Coin. District 13 to me seemed a little worse than the capital. I know thats how they have survived, and I give them credit dont get me wrong, but they were a little ruthless. Look at what they did to Katniss's poor stylests(poor Cina, he was one of my favorites too;Wardon is right, all the people that I like end up dieing or really hurt...sad)and I didnt like how they tried to use Katniss. I love Buttercup, everytime he3 came back I relaxed a little, he was as much a comfort to me as he was to Prim. I didnt like the camera crew, and the missons they sent Katniss on, Collins did an amazing job at showing the war, and she was brutal in who she killed. So even though it's not my favorite I have to admit the content and the messege really come alive. I was really dissapointed with the ending, I couldnt believe she killed Prim, she had been the catalyst that had started this whole mess of events in the first place! and Finnik, and Boggs, and I was so mad at Gale and Beetee. And dont even get me started on Katniss's mother(very angry face)I felt it could have been better, and the epiloge just left me with more questions...but all in all these were amazing books, and I cant wait for the movie, I think we should all make shirts and go together, who's with me?
Oh, and just text me if you guys need the audio books, the interview is really interesting. Annnnnd did you guys know Collins has written and childrens book series? It sounds pretty cool :)
